Grammy’s Fashion

Fashion at the Grammys usually goes a little crazy, ‘cause it’s all about the music and it can get alternative and different to the rest of the Award Ceremonies.

That means that a lot of what you see is plain horrible. And the rest gets it right.

Taylor Swift in Atelier Versace, getting it right, baring abs and getting bright color blocking just right, with the new bob.

Selena Gomez in a Calvin Klein bright blue gown, with cut outs. This girl still has a lot to learn about not looking like her mother and trying something that’s really for her, but this dress was  good choice.

Adele went for a black Givenchy and I believe it was a right choice. Maybe not really daring, but good.

Florence Welch wearing Gucci. And as I saw her, I definitely understood Alessandro Michele’s target. People like Florence. I wouldn’t wear that boho chic dress, with the flounces and the shiny stars and ribbons, but it is totally Florence, and now I get it.

And Kacey Musgrave, wearing Armani Privé in such a wonderful way. This is just a perfect red carpet gown.

MET Gala 2015 China: Through the looking glass.

Tonight, The MET hosts fashions biggest party, as it unveils its fashion exhibit.

This year you will be able to see China’s fashion development. And it is always interesting, as the “asian” trend has been off the table for some time now. If you remember, back in the 90’s, we were all wearing those “China inspired” dresses and jackets.

Asian influence also goes to animals and bamboo prints. Sheer, delicate fabrics with a lot of flow, and at the same time, silky body hugging satin and structured taffetas. As it is China, it is mandatory some red and gold. The Invite also included some intricate head embellishments, and flowers. You’ll get it when you see Sarah Jessica Parker, as every other year.

Gold and silver, as well as semi nakedness under shiny embellishments and sheer fabrics, cut outs and some king of crop top were some of the trends on the red carpet.

Let it be said that most of the dresses had no relation whatsoever with China or any asian influence whatsoever, so the theme of the Gala should be stablished sooner so the participants had more time to figure out their dresses.
Rihanna showed up with a Guo Pei Couture gown which is obviously chinese by origin, but if you didn’t know I’m sure you would not figure it out it has any “asian influence”. I have to say that i loved Rihanna wearing the extra fluffy Pink Giambattista Valli, but this yellow giant cape with train and the head piece, and the shiny white sandals, and the necklace were a little bit too much, even for Rihanna who has proven to be able to pull off almost everything.

Let’s see the dresses.

Some may be missing, but you get the point.

Remember that the MET announced that they would ban any social media posting, but apparently that isn’t working effectively since Madonna, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga have already released a picture of themselves inside the party. So let’s stay tuned to see how these people can survive in their naked dresses.

VMAs gone wrong

So I’m guessing you all got to see Miley Cirus going all crazy with Teddy Bears and Robin Thicke.
It’s just sad when a girl like her just has to go so far to prove that she’s no longer Hannah Montana. We understood 10 semi naked pictures ago.
Somebody please let her know we have understood, it is no longer necessary for her to go down this sad, talentless, whorish spiral.
But that was just that horrible moment, where all the Smith family went into massive shock, and Rihanna and the boys of One Direction looked unfazed.
There was the ‘Nsync reunion. I really like Justin Timberlake, I do believe he’s quite talented, but the ‘nsync encore was terribly sad.
It seemed like an act of charity, because no one cares for the other 4. It was like a Menudo come back, 15 pounds later.
But let’s get to the theme that we really love: Fashion. And we should be in mourning. It was horribly wrong all over the place.
Miley Cirus in that Dolce&Gabbana. You all know about my love for D&G. I believe that the latest collections have been works of pure art, just inspiring and delightful. But this cropped top, with the leggins and the shiny, colorful beads, seemed to belong in Cirque du Soleil, or a flea market.
It was terrible, and the big chunky sandals were a terrible mistake also. You just don’t mix a messy outfit with an even heavier shoes.
Selena Gomez in Versace: NOT AGE APPROPRIATE. Versace is not for little girls, specially not the ones with half sheer corset on display. These outfits are for really sensual, extroverted women with a very particular attitude. NOt a girl that cannot think of a suitable hairdo other than long and loose.
But please don’t think this critic is meant for you to turn into another Miley Cirus kinda train wreck. Gomez has been doing fine, let’s give her the benefit of the doubt.
Taylor Swift looked fabulous and out of place. That Hervé Leger by Max Azria was not for this particular red carpet. The retro wavy hair, and the simple make up with red lipstick were just perfect. The navy blue with the crystal beadings and the plunging neckline fit her perfectly, but she looked like she got lost on her way to a ball, and just got to the VMAs and decided to stay and bash her exboyfriend.
I really don’t get the leopard/butterfly Emanuel Ungaro. Not the time that Coco Rocha wore it (longer than it was on the runway), or this time with Katy Perry (with the proper length). It is just too much. The leopard print, with the golden butterflies all over the chest and shoulders, and the turtle neck. I just think it’s impossible not to go wrong or overboard with it. And both Rocha and Perry could not get it right, and they are usually very fashion precise. Coco with those crazy booties, and Katy with that Roar grid. The grid trend must die as soon as possible. It is just horrifying. It doesn’t matter that Madonna has it going on. It’s nasty and it makes them look as if they have issues with their dentists.
Way to ruin an Alexander McQueen, Ciara. Again, I understand Ciara has the right body to wear this sheer brocade McQueen, but this wasn’t the right occasion and the hair and make up were horrible and didn’t fit the dress at all. You can’t wear your hair down, when the dress is so elaborate.
Lady GaGa channeling Morticia Adams, and the horrible wigs. I believe she knew that Miley was going to pull off the crazy, and she though this would be subdued. This Prabal Gurung is not a fantastic dress, but it went straight to horrible with the matching long black wig. No make up (so it would seem), no accessories, not anything that would make this look good. And the seashells later on… no comments.
Rita Ora in Alexander Vauthier Couture. This one actually makes me sad. Couture is made to fit you to perfection, and yet this dress seemed that was made for someone else, looking like crap. On the runway, the upper part is longer because it helps the body look slimmer and give the proper silhouette.
Also, the plunging neck line is meant to fit that longer line. The black thick silk belt cuts the beaded top and the long feathered train, so you can appreciate the textures and the craft. It was all kinds of wrong.

As you can see, not a lot to rescue from this event. Let’s hope the Emmy Awards go down better.
